9 Years Ago…………..
Nine years ago today ( July 5th, 2001 ) I lost my best friend Keenan Milton… He actually passed away on the 4th but the time of his death is a bit sketchy… I would like to think that he passed away after 12:01 am on the 5th so the happiness of the 4th of July doesn’t get over shadowed with the sadness of the passing of one of the greatest skateboarders all time and one of my best friends… still remember the last day I saw him.. which was the last day he was alive… The 4th of July.. he came into the shop.. and in typical Keenan form.. went behind the counter and opened up the register and grabbed some cash for… what else ?? Beer… for the party. He tried to convince me not to go to NYC that day but i was already packed and ready to go… we hugged and I bounced to NYC… the next morning i get the call in NY at 5 am in the morning.. a phone call that early meant something bad.. I dropped the phone… then I rushed back to LA to deal with it. Soon after the funeral back in NY.. found a box of bearings that was sent to him… never opened it.. look at it from time to time…. Keenan.. I know you’re up there raising hell… and I know you’re smiling on all of us that you love. Rest In Power brother. Love and miss you.
